The allocation of .ie domains is handled in a different manner to .com domains, which are awarded on a first come first served basis A .ie domain is awarded by the IEDR once you have proven you are entitled to the domain name you are applying for.

All applications for a .ie must have a real and substantive connection to Ireland, either by being a registered business here or having trading links with Irish customers. The documentation required depends on what type of a company/organisation you are. (see IEDR.ie for further information).
