FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the simplest and most common way to exchange files over the Internet.

The main use for FTP is to upload files to the Internet.

The ability to transfer files back-and-forth makes FTP essential for anyone creating a Website.

Your online webspace is very similar to your local computers folder structure.

If you wish to copy files on your local computer from one folder to another, you would copy and paste the selected files to the new folder.

If you wish to copy files from your local computer to your webspace, you would use an FTP client to connect to the web server and then copy and paste your files.
