Managing FrontPage Extensions

2*2*2*2*2*

Article

All Plus versions of hosting packages come with the option of using Microsoft FrontPage Extensions. This will allow you to design your website using Microsoft FrontPage, using FrontPage components such as forms, themes, navigation etc., and upload using FrontPage's http publishing protocol

Please Note:FrontPage extensions installed on our Linux servers are not native Windows FrontPage extensions. They are specifically licensed by Microsoft, and recompiled for Linux by a third-party. The version installed on our Linux servers support up to and including FrontPage 2003; this is the final release of the Linux version of FrontPage extensions, as Microsoft are no longer releasing the source code for non-Windows platforms

Microsoft Sharepoint Services are not supported on any Linux hosting platform

Namesco Visual Tutorials: Managing FrontPage Extensions

There are three options available for managing FrontPage extensions on your hosting package - install, reinstall and remove. To access these, we first need to select the domain name that has the Plus hosting package. Log in to your online account, and click on Domain Names in the left had menu (figure 1)

Installing FrontPage Extensions

If FrontPage extensions are not already installed, you will see the screen below (figure 4). Installing the extensions onto your webspace is simply a matter of ticking the Install box, and clicking the SUBMIT button (figure 5)

Reinstalling FrontPage Extensions

There are times when you may need to reinstall the FrontPage extensions on your webspace, for example, if they have become corrupted, say, by using FTP to access your site rather than http publishing. Reinstalling FrontPage extensions may solve these issues, but you may still need to remove and then install them from fresh.

When reinstalling extensions, you will always need to republish your website using http publishing (figure 7)

Removing FrontPage Extensions

If you need to remove FrontPage Extensions from your webspace, for example, if you no longer use FrontPage, or the extensions have corrupted and need a fresh install, you will need to tick the Remove box, and then click on the SUBMIT button (figures 10 & 11)

You will then see the following screen (figure 6), saying that the installation process is under way. In up to 15 minutes time, you will then receive an email, sent to the email address shown, which will confirm that the FrontPage extensions have been removed from your webspace
