FTP with FrontPage 98

2*2*2*2*2*

Article

FrontPage 98 is a design and publishing package available from http://www.microsoft.com which offers an all-in-one solution suited to the beginner. Below is a guide to configuring the program to access your webspace using the ftp publish method. You do not need to have FrontPage Extensions enabled on your webspace to use this guide.

Please note: In the examples below, you should replace domainname.com with your own domain name

Getting started

Publishing: This guide assumes that you have already designed your website in FrontPage 98, and that the site is currenly loaded into the program.

The first step to getting your site onto your webspace is to go to the File menu and select Publish FrontPage Web from the options.

Entering your site details

Your site: When the Publish box appears, you need to click on the More Webs button if this is the first time that you have published your website to your webspace. If you have done this previously, there will be an entry in the white box that holds the details from your previous publishing.

Domain name: Enter your domain name in the box provided. Make sure that you put the www. in. Click the Okay button once you have done this

All or changed: If you are wanting to publish all of your website again, if you have redesigned it all, for example, or if it is the first time you are uploading the site, untick the Publish changed pages only box. If you only want to upload the pages you have made changes to, then tick this box.

Click the Okay button when you are ready

Web Publishing Wizard This now brings up the Web Publishing Wizard asking you for ftp details. This happens when FrontPage 98 does not detect FrontPage server extensions on the webspace. Enter them so the screen resembles the picture above
