FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the simplest and most common way to exchange files over the Internet.

The main use for FTP is to upload files to the Internet.

The ability to transfer files back-and-forth makes FTP essential for anyone creating a Website.

Your online webspace is very similar to your local computers folder structure. If you wish to copy files on your local computer from one folder to another, you would copy and paste the selected files to the new folder.

To copy files from your local computer to your webspace, you would need to use an FTP Client. An FTP Client is an application which you install on your local computer for the purposes of transferring files. There are many FTP Clients available and most can be downloaded for free from the internet. To make a connection to the web server using the FTP Client you will need your FTP details found in the initial hosting setup email that we sent you when you ordered your hosting, however if you can't find this then you can use the following settings:

Linux Hosting

  • Host Name: ftp1.reg365.net
  • Username: yourdomain.com*
  • Password: yourpassword**
  • Default Directory: /web

Windows Hosting

  • Host Name: ftp2.reg365.net
  • Username: yourdomain.com***
  • Password: yourpassword**
  • Default Directory: /web

Your ftp client will then begin its session in the correct directory.

When using FTP all files should be uploaded to /web (the 'web' directory in the site root)

If you are not logged into that directory by default, you will need to navigate to the site root then into the 'web' directory before uploading your files. If you do not have a visual FTP client that allows you to do this, then you should set the default remote directory as /web

* replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name
** replace yourpassword with your actual password
*** replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name - if your domain is over 20 characters long in total, you should just use the first 20 characters.
