From that date, only email clients that support Modern Authentication will be able to connect to the service.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have put together this handy support guide to help you identify if you\u2019ll be impacted by this change and what you can do to make sure your emails continue to function.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, we are unable to make any required changes for you as it\u2019s a local setting on your affected device.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is Basic Authentication?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Basic Authentication is a method used to connect to email servers. It\u2019s the method that applications use to send your username and password to the Microsoft services. Traditionally, this was enabled as default on applications predating 2016.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Basic Authentication has become outdated and there are security risks associated with its continued use. Microsoft has taken the decision to deactivate any connection using Basic Authentication.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This decision will require an update to any connection using Basic Authentication to switch to Modern Authentication which uses superior security techniques to keep your connection secure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to Tell if You\u2019re Impacted<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As a rule, if you match any of the following conditions then it is unlikely that you will be affected by this change:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>You are using Outlook 2016 or later&nbsp;<\/li><li>You are connecting using the Exchange protocol, rather than <em>POP\/IMAP<\/em>&nbsp;<\/li><li>You are using a modern system with an up-to-date operating system<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Some popular email applications will no longer be supported. If you are using:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Microsoft Outlook: Version 2013 and under&nbsp;<\/li><li>Mac Mail: macOS 10.14 (Mojave) and under&nbsp;<\/li><li>Mozilla Thunderbird: Any version below 77.0b1&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You will need to upgrade your email application or find an alternatively solution (more information found below in \u201c<strong>What Can I Do If I\u2019m Affected<\/strong>\u201d section).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re not sure what version of application you\u2019re using, you can generally check in the settings of that application. Some examples can be seen below. For other applications, you may need to consult the developer of that application.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to Check on Outlook:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>First, select \u201c<strong>File<\/strong>\u201d In the top left-hand corner:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.names.co.uk\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Picture1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3334\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Select \u201c<strong>Office Account<\/strong>\u201d from the options on the left:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.names.co.uk\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Picture2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3335\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The version of Outlook is displayed in the bottom left-hand corner:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.names.co.uk\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Picture3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3336\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to Check on Mac Mail:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>First, when Mac Mail is open select \u201c<strong>Mail<\/strong>\u201d in the top left-hand corner:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.names.co.uk\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Picture4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3337\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, select \u201c<strong>About Mail<\/strong>\u201d:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.names.co.uk\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Picture5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3338\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You will then be able to see the version of Mac Mail you are using:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.names.co.uk\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Picture6.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3339\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to Check on Thunderbird:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>First, click the \u201c<strong>Menu<\/strong>\u201d <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3346\" style=\"width: 31px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.names.co.uk\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Picture12.png\" alt=\"\"> button in the top right-hand corner:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.names.co.uk\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Picture7.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3340\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Select \u201c<strong>Help<\/strong>\u201d and then \u201cAbout <strong>Thunderbird<\/strong>\u201d:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.names.co.uk\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Picture8.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3341\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.names.co.uk\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Picture9.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3342\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A new tab will open. Under \u201c<strong>Application Basics<\/strong>\u201d you should be able to see the version number:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.names.co.uk\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Picture10.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3343\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Can I Do if I\u2019m Affected?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two options available if you\u2019ve been affected:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Upgrade to a modern email application<\/li><li>Use the Outlook Web Application (OWA)<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Use an application that Supports Modern Authentication or Exchange<\/strong>:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To continue using an email application, you\u2019ll require an upgrade. Most email applications made after 2016 support either the Modern Authentication protocol as default or allow you to directly set the account up as an \u201cExchange\u201d account which means you only need to enter in your email address and password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Support guides on how to set up using this method can located on our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.register365.com\/support\/categories\/microsoft-365\/\">Microsoft 365 Centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re also able to upgrade your licence to Business Standard. This will give you access to download the latest version of Outlook. For options on this, please call our sales team on 0345 363 3632.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nco-warning-block\"><p class=\"nco-warning-block-content\"><em>NOTE: If you are utilising a POP3 connection, you may be required to migrate your emails to your new email application. We recommend contacting our Support team if you have a current POP3 connection.<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Use the Outlook Web Application (OWA)<\/strong>:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With your Office plan, you have access to OWA. This is an online portal where you can access your emails. This will continue to work regardless of issues with an email application.
