How to validate a .ie Domain Name

Once you purchase a .ie domain name, you will be required to validate the domain name.

This guide will show a list of the full requirements you need to fit to validate your .ie domain name.

Businesses

If you are a registered business affiliated with Ireland, you require one of the following:

  • RBN/ CRO number
  • Irish VAT number (registered in Republic of Ireland/Northern Ireland)
  • Tax clearance certificate from Ireland’s Revenue Commissioners
  • Irish/European Community Trademark number
  • WIPO Trademark number (enforceable in Ireland)
  • Correspondence from HM Revenue and Customs (showing that you are registered for trading in Ireland)

If you are self employed then you must provide one of the following:

  • RBN number
  • Irish VAT number (registered in Republic of Ireland/Northern Ireland).
  • Tax clearance certificate from Ireland’s Revenue Commissioners
  • Irish/European Community Trademark number.
  • WIPO Trademark number
  • Correspondence from HM Revenue and Customs (showing that you are registered for trading in Ireland)

If you cannot provide any of the above, you will need to provide separate evidence of your connection to Ireland and evidence of your commercial identity.

If you are just starting a business and are looking to register a domain name, you will be required to provide one of the following documents:

  • Irish Passport.
  • Irish/UK driver’s licence (showing an address in Ireland).
  • Irish/Northern Irish bank statement (showing an address in Ireland).
  • Official College ID
  • Department of Social Protection issued Public Services Card.
  • Correspondence from Ireland’s Revenue Commissioners (showing your PPS number)

Individual

An Individual who is looking to register a domain name will have specific specifications to them, needing one of the following:

  • Irish Passport.
  • Irish/UK driver’s licence (showing an address in Ireland).
  • Irish/Northern Irish bank statement (showing an address Ireland).
  • Official College ID
  • Department of Social Protection issued Public Services Card.
  • Correspondence from Ireland’s Revenue Commissioners (showing your PPS number).

You will be required to provide the same information if you are starting a blog or information website.

Registered Trademarks

For those looking to create a domain name from their Registered Trademark, you will need to provide one of the following documents:

  • Irish Trademark number.
  • European Community Trademark number.
  • WIPO Trademark number

Club, Society or Band

If you are creating a domain name for your Club, Society or Band, you’ll need to show your connection to Ireland through the following methods:

  • If you are registered as a Company or Partnership: We will accept any ONE of the document types outlined in the Business option on this page.
  • Other: If the organisation is otherwise established, we will accept an Irish/Northern Irish bank statement (showing an address in Ireland), or any ONE of the documents types outlined in the Individual option on this page, from a nominated member of the organisation.

School or College

To register a domain name for your School/College, you will need to provide us with your school or college roll number.

Statutory Body

A Statutory Body or State Agency that can be verified online does not need to provide any Supporting Documentation

Charity

A Charity with a connection to Ireland will need to provide one of the following documents:

  • CHY number (Irish Revenue Commissioners issued number).
  • NIC number (Northern Ireland Charity Commission issued number)

Overseas Applicants

If you are applying for a .ie domain name from overseas, then you may still be able to register for this domain name if you have connections to Ireland.

If you are trading in Ireland, you can provide evidence signed by a third party Auditor or Solicitor to state that you are selling good to Ireland or at least plan to in the immediate future.

Any individuals that are looking to register for a .ie that is not a resident of Ireland or doing business in Ireland, then you are unable to meet the requirements for a .ie domain name and therefore cannot register the domain name.
