New gTLDs: What’s hot and what’s not

New gTLDs

Only four weeks after the new gTLDS (generic Top Level Domains) became available on the open market, we’re already seeing trends of the most and least popular, so let’s take a look.

As expected, some of the new domains are quite niche and are not on top of the global list – .camera, .plumbing and .lighting. However there appears to be regional variations; for example, in the UK, .plumbing has done quite well and is still growing quickly!

Although completely different, .ventures and .equipment are going almost head to head for the time being with around 3800 registrations each across the globe, while .holding is right behind them at 2600 being a bit more niche.

Next in line is .gallery which has many different uses across a number of business areas. The popularity of .clothing – almost 7000 registrations – seems to show that the fashion business is thriving.

The one domain that’s beats all of the above is …wait for it … .photography! The web is perfect for displaying images online to millions of others; business or hobby, and it’s looking like a must have domain for photography lovers – and it’s also the favourite in Ireland!

Which new gTLD is the global number one?

Well it looks like the world just loves a .guru! With registrations approaching 35,000, this extension has stormed ahead of all the others from day one and is still going strong. So, if you consider yourself to be an expert in anything, you better hurry and secure your perfect .guru before someone else claims it.

What’s coming up?

The hottest extensions yet to be launched include .web and .shop, so keep an eye on our website, Facebook and Twitter to be the first to know when you can buy them.
